Introduction to Theatre Arts
General introduction to the art of theatre. Principles of play
criticism and elements of play production. Analysis and
discussion of various types of drama from structural, thematic,
aesthetic, and diverse cultural perspectives. Prerequisite for
THEA 491, Play Direction, and fulfills the Liberal Studies
Aesthetic Modes of Inquiry requirement. Offered each semester.
THEA 370: 3 hrs.
Solo Performance Seminar
A laboratory exploration of current trends in monologue drama:
this course combines creative composition, performance and study
of texts from feminist performance art to multi-character
performances by artists such as Anna Deveare Smith and Spaulding
Gray. Prerequisite: THEA 275 or THEA 277.
