Acting II: Advanced Scene Study
Intensive training in comic, dramatic, and lyric scene
performance. Two to three hours laboratory experience each week.
Prerequisites: THEA 175 and THEA 277 or permission of the
instructor. Offered each Fall semester.
THEA 478: 3 hrs.
Costume Design
Historical trends and principles of theatrical costume design,
including patterning and rendering techniques. Prerequisite:
THEA 395 or permission of the instructor. Offered each Spring
semester.
THEA 480: 3 hrs.
Scene Design
Principles and practices of designing scenery for both
commercial and educational theatre. Includes drawing, drafting
and model work for production. Prerequisite: THEA 391 or
permission.
THEA 359: 3 hrs.
Acting III: Lyric Performance
Advanced studies in stylized performance, including
transatlantic dialect, methodes of acting a song, and techniques
in playing Shakespeare. Two hours of laboratory experience each
week. Prerequisite: THEA 278 AND permission.
THEA 374: 3 hrs.
History and Literature of the Theatre IV
This course examines intercultural performances of the recent
past, as well as the history and dramatic literature emerging
from a variety of uniquely American Perspectives: African
American, Latino, Native Americans, and Asian Americans. In
addition, it explores issues relevant to creating, viewing, and
reading cross-cultural theatre. Prerequisite: THEA 275 or
permission.
THEA 481: 1-3 hrs.
Advanced Studies and Projects in Theatre
Independent research, design, or theatre practice conducted on
an individual contract basis between students and instructor.
Studies/Projects may include such areas as playwriting, stage
management, and mainstage design. This course may be repeated
for credit. Prerequisite: permission from instructor.
COMM 273: 3 hrs.
Oral Interpretation
The study of literary texts through the medium of performance
including various critical and interpretive perspectives.
Prerequisite: COMM 170 or equivalent.
ENG 315: 4 hrs.
Studies in Shakespeare
An in depth analysis of the tragedies, comedies, histories,
romances, or poems and one or more topics in Shakespeare
Studies. Topics will vary from semester to semester and will be
indicated in the semester class scedule. Topics may include:
Shakespeare and Genre Theory; Shakespeare adn Critical Theory;
Shakespeare and Gender Theory. This course is intended for
English and Theatre majors and does not substitute for ENG 250
Shakespeare in the LSP. NOTE: General Honors Course.
COMM 478: 3 hrs.
Readers Theatre/Chamber Theatre
Theoretical foundations and principles of reader's theatre and
chamber theatre productions, including script adaptation and
development, directing, and performance of scripts.
Prerequisite: COMM 273 or equivalent.
